Last Fourth of July the rain
washed the annual Trail Ride
away. The mud was too thick on
much of the land the trail crosses,
and event organizers didn’t want
to risk injuring a steed or rider,
said Tim Anderson, president of
the Molalla Buckeroo Associa-
tion.
“This year it looks good,” he
said, hoping the sun will come
out prior to Independence Day
and dry out the trails.
The ride begins and ends at the
Buckeroo Grounds. In between,
it weaves through mostly level
and clear land.
“It’s a fun, easy trail,” Ander-
son said. “A few water cross-
ings—nothing extreme.”
In 2011, around 520 people
showed up for the ride. This year,
Anderson expects between 400
and 600 riders. There is no age
restriction, although minors must
be accompanied by an adult.
The ride usually takes between
two and three hours to complete.
A registration booth will be at the
Buckeroo Grounds the morning
of the ride. No alcohol is permit-
ted on the trail.
For riders wanting to rough it
the night before, camping spots
will be available in the contestant
parking area following the Kick-
off Party. Call ahead to get a
camping pass. Riders can camp
out, then wake up and ride.
The ride is a famous Molalla
tradition, Anderson said, going
back in history “almost as long as
the Buckeroo itself.”
