T
his year’s Kiddies Parade theme
focuses on Molalla’s centennial
birthday.
Lori McKinley, the Key Club adviser
and a veteran of the Kiddies Pa-
rade, predicts a good
turnout for the event,
which will take place
on July 3 at 6 p.m.
She expects
around 300 peo-
ple to participate
in the parade.
The Kiddies
Parade is a tradi-
tion in the Molalla
Fourth of July fes-
tivities. McKinley
marched in it when she
was a child, and she’s now
on her 9th year helping organize it.
The parade is judged by Country
Christian Key Club students. “They run
the whole parade,” McKinley said.
The Fire Department also helps
judge the eight categories in the pa-
rade, which are floats, miscellaneous
wheel (anything with wheels smaller
than a float), single horse Western,
group horse Western, single horse
costume, group horse costume, pets
and other (anything that falls outside
the rest of the categories).
The parade will follow the same
route as last year (see map).
Last year the kids nominated their
moms as grand marshal of the
parade. This year the
honor will go to one of
their grandparents.
As always, kids
are encouraged
to bring animals
to march with
them. In the Kid-
dies Parade,
dogs, sheep,
goats, ponies and
chickens are wel-
come to join in.
Participants can pre-
register by mail (forms

register the day of the event between
3:15 and 4:30 p.m.
The event is sure to be full of Molalla
pride, showing off 100 years of history.
But “the kids are certainly welcome to
do anything they want theme wise,”
McKinley said. “We just want it to be
a fun parade.”
Dogs, ponies and even goats join children for Molalla’s annual Kiddies Parade, organized by the Coun-
try Christian Key Club and sponsored by Molalla Fire District. This year’s parade is slated for Wednes-
day, July 3 at 6 p.m. Country Christian students, below, march in last year’s parade.
