Rascal Rodeo
back for a second year
By Cory Mimms
Molalla Pioneer
C
hildren and adults with disabili-
ties will have another chance to
participate in the Rascal Rodeo
this year during the Molalla Buckeroo.
The Rascal Rodeo is a nonprofit or-
ganization founded by Ann-Erica
Whitemarsh and based in Pasco,
Wash. Whitemarsh started the Rascal
Rodeo in 2001 as a senior project, and
she got her nonprofit status in August
2012.
Last year, the event was a major hit,
with some contestants laughing so
hard they had to stop for a breather,
Tim Anderson, president of the Molalla
Buckeroo Association, said. “It was an
incredible amount of fun. It’s the rea-
son a lot of us do what we do.”
Calf roping, stick horse barrel racing
and pony rides are just a few of the
events at this year’s Rascal Rodeo,
which is free to all who want to watch.
About 30 people participated in the
event last summer, and that number is
expected to increase this year to 40 or
50. “We’ll take as many as we can get
as long as we have enough volunteers
for it,” Whitemarsh said. “We won’t
turn anybody away.”
Volunteers are still needed and are
asked to register by June 24. Anyone
14 years old or older can help, and no
rodeo or horse experience is neces-
sary. Whitemarsh just wants everyone
to get involved and focus on making
the experience for the participants as
fun as possible.
In addition to volunteers, the Rascal
Rodeo also needs donations. A lot of
equipment, time and energy go into
making the event a success, and spon-
sors are always appreciated.
If an organization donates enough
money to cover the price of the event
T-shirts, they get their name on the
backs of the shirts, which volunteers
and participants will wear.
The event is at the Molalla Buckeroo
Grounds on July 1 at 10 a.m. To get in-
volved, go to

Last year was the first year the Rascal Rodeo came to the Molalla Buckeroo. The event is put on by a
volunteer staff and depends on donations from community and corporate sponsors to operate.
