This fall, the Lady Indians volleyball team
will do their best to improve on last season
and build for success in the future. The big-
gest returning name is head coach Mark
Sprenger, who is back at the helm of the pro-
gram once again after stepping down for a
few seasons.
Last year under Sprenger, Scappoose made
huge improvements over a single-win 2011
campaign, finishing 14-10 overall and making
the state playoffs. The Indians have several
integral parts of last year’s team back, which
will mix with a strong group of new faces.
Four returning varsity players will beef up
this year’s squad, all four of which saw con-
siderable time last season. Leading that group
is senior setter

low, who is
now in her
third season
on varsity. Cat-
low was an
iron horse for
the Indians,
and hardly saw
the bench at all
in 2012.
“She played
every tourna-
ment, she
played every
game,” said
Sprenger. “I
think she came
out maybe three
to five points
the entire year.”
Because of her position and ability to get
the job done, Sprenger said Catlow has devel-
oped into a natural leader, as many setters do
because of their requirements to run the of-
