Good Luck
to the
St. Helens
& Scappoose
Sports Teams!
The Tribe wrapped up daily dou-
bles last week with a scrimmage
and picture day on Saturday. Over-
all the coach was pleased.
“I was happy with the way the
kids competed,” McNabb said. “I
watched the film and looked over a
lot of things we need to fix. We com-
peted well and the kids were excited
about playing each other. Last year
it was a 28-28 tie and this year it was
21-14 and the black teamwas about
to score when time ran out.”
McNabb said he thought Taylor
Loss (quarterback) played well, and
backs Carson Davison and Johna-
thon Tardif ran hard. He felt Nick
Rust and Justice Oman had some
nice catches. He added the offensive
lines did well, particularly sopho-
more center Matt Bennett (6-feet,
3-inches, 215). Blake Wills (6-0, 175,
sr.) also played good at center.
Key to the Tribe’s offense this
year will be quarterback Taylor
Loss.
“It’s Taylor’s second year offen-
sively,” McNabb said, “and that’s
why we’re where we are at in terms
of being much more confident and
experienced. He’s learned how to
command the offense and has the
ability to make a bad call into a
good play.”
Loss (6-0, 180) has spent a lot of
time in the weight room in the off
season and performed well in Satur-
day’s scrimmage.
Running backs for the Tribe will
include senior Carson Davison (5-10,
170), junior Johnathon Tardif (6-1,
165), and sophomore Braden Clark
(5-10, 160).
“Carson will be starting at single
back,” McNabb noted. “He’s coming
off a 1,000-yard year and has the
ability to make it happen. He’s got
good speed, good change of direc-
tion, and he’s a hard runner. Braden
and Carson are sprinters, while
Johnny is a tough runner, a little
taller than the others.”
Receivers are also a big part of
Scappoose’s spread, no-huddle of-
fense. Nick Rust (6-1, 180, sr.) will
occupy one of the slot positions,
while either Mychal Hortert (5-10,
165, sr.) or Jacob Wendelschafer (5-
10, 160, jr.) will slip into the other.
Wide receivers will include Justice
Oman (6-2, 175, sr.) and David Krup-
sky (5-11, 160, jr.). Clark may also
get some time there.
“I feel pretty good about the skill
positions,” McNabb said. “We’ve got
some depth there and now we’ll
make it all work.”
In addition to Bennett and Wills,
linemen for Scappoose will include
Kenny Klippel (6-2, 240, sr.), Dalton
Welter (6-6, 280), and Devin Ray (5-
11, 210, jr.).
“We’ve got experience and we’re
as big or bigger than last year,”
McNabb added. “But we’re not real

Quick Notes:
•Scappoose brings back some talent
from last year’s league champions.
•The Indians will continue with their
spread option, no-huddle offense.
•The team is lacks depth on the line,
but has size and experience.
•The Tribe should again be a league
title contender.
