Deschutes Historical Museum
Deschutes Historical Museum, located in
downtown Bend (129 N.W. Idaho Ave. ), the
museum abounds with history and relics of
the past lives of Deschutes County. Since
1980, the Deschutes Historical Museum has
been located in the historic Reid School,
located at 129 N.W. Idaho, Bend, Ore.

Peterson Rock
Garden Museum is
located between Bend
and Redmond (7930
S.W. 77th St.,
Redmond). Danish
immigrant,
Rasmuseum Peterson,
came to America in
1900 when he was
only 17. He collected
rocks from the area
around his home, and
in 1935 he began
building things on his
4-acre site until his
death in 1952.
The museum,
featuring a variety of
rock specimens, sits in
a wonderful park
setting surrounded by
replicas of historic
buildings, bridges,
towers, and many
other structures
created out of rocks
and petrified wood.

Redmond Museum
Redmond Museum, downtown Redmond
(529 S.W. 7th St.). The current exhibit features
artifacts from the logging industry, local
lumber mills, and logging activities. The
exhibits will include everything from logging
in the forest to the views inside a lumber
mill. There are interpretive exhibits of a Mill
office, an infirmary and even the corner
Tavern.
The museum opens on June 22, and is
open from noon to 4 p.m., Thursday through
Saturday.

Museum at Warm Springs
Museum at Warm Springs is located on
Highway 26 at Warm Springs (2189 Highway
26). It is owned by The Confederated Tribes
of Warm Springs and chronicles the history
of three local Native American tribes,Warm
Springs,Wasco and Paiute on the
reservation. It is a very state-of-the-art
museum with interactive and multimedia
exhibits.
There is also an all Native American art
gallery housed in the building.

Thomas Condon Paleontology
Center at Sheep Rock
The Thomas Condon Paleontology
Center is located seven miles northwest of
Dayville, Ore., on Highway 19. The center is
part of unit of the John Day Fossil Beds, and
is named after Thomas Condon, who came
west in the 1850s. He discovered the John
Day Fossil Beds.
This unique museum is the centerpiece
of the John Day Fossil Beds national
monument. It includes windows that allow
visitors to watch paleontologists scrape and
unearth precious fossil finds from the
nearby fossil beds. Visitors can also enjoy
displays of fossils and various presentations
that are set up throughout the center.

until 5 p.m. in summer.

James Cant Ranch House at
John Day Fossil Beds
The ranch was sold to James Cant in
1910, and offers visitors an opportunity to
experience Eastern Oregon’s ranching
heritage. There are 11 structures in the
complex, and Sheep
Rock is a prominent
feature approximately
one mile southeast of
the ranch complex.
The ranch is located
on both sides of the
John Day River off of
Highway 19. It is eight
miles northeast of
Dayville and 20 miles
southeast of Spray.

Northwest Bridge St.),
is a unique historic site.
The building was
originally constructed
as a trading post on
The Dalles Military
Road in 1866-67.
Serving as a center for
the Chinese
community in Eastern
Oregon until the early
1940s, it now contains
thousands of artifacts
and relics from its
many former uses.

Spray Pioneer Museum
Spray Pioneer Museum, located
downtown (300 Park Ave. ), is housed in the
Community Church building, which was
built in 1912. It now holds historical
collections and displays of artifacts dating
from the 1800s to the present.
Hours: Friday-Sunday afternoons.
