Each July, Prineville hosts the only
horse racing in Central Oregon. The 2013
Crooked River Roundup Race Meet
is
scheduled for Wednesday – Saturday, July
10-13 at the Crook County Fairgrounds.
Whether you are in town to lay down
some serious cash at the betting windows,
or just to watch the action, the horse races
are a fun event for the entire family.
Although the races have come a long way
since 1966 – with a computerized betting
system and odds displayed on a TV screen –
the heart-pounding spirit of the early years
remains. With a minimum of seven races
nightly, and as many as 10 races on some
nights, there is plenty of action for any horse
racing fan.
The Crooked River Roundup Races are run
entirely with volunteer help. The races
involve hundreds of volunteers each year.
Volunteers man the betting windows, serve
beer to the thousands of spectators that
come through the gates each night, and
provide a host of other services.
Volunteers are always welcome. For more
information on the races, check out
. Those
interested in volunteering can get more
