The Crook County Parks and Recreation District coordinates
dozens of recreation programs and special events throughout the
year and maintains 13 parks covering more than 100 acres of
open space.
The district operates and maintains a swimming pool, skating
rink, skate park, RV park, campground, eight ball fields, a commu-
nity garden, and two dog parks.

RECREATION PROGRAMS:
The District offers both indoor and out-
door classes and activities
for youth and adults. A
variety of activities are
offered including adven-
ture-based programs, arts
and crafts, basketball,
dance, drama, gymnastics
hunter education, karate,
music, soccer, swimming
lessons, tee ball, tennis,
and activities for those 50
and older.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
Annual events include a
carnival, Crook County
Cleanup, Daddy/Daughter
Dance, Fishing Derby,
Halloween Skate Party,
New Year’s Skate Party,
Santa’s Workshop, and
Western Daze.
SWIMMING POOL:
The
heated outdoor swimming
pool is open only during
the summer months, from
mid-June through August.
The pool, which can be
reserved in advance for private parties on Saturdays and Sundays,
is located on the south side of Ochoco Creek Park.
SKATING RINK:
The roller skating rink, which is located in the
Crooked River Elementary School gymnasium, is open during the
school year, with regular skating sessions on Friday and Saturday
nights. There are also several special events throughout the year.
With advance notice, private parties may rent the facility on a
Saturday afternoon anytime in September through the end of May.
SKATE PARK:
The Skate Park, which opened in 1997, is used the
entire year by local skateboarders, bikers, and in-line enthusiasts
of all ages. This 30-by-100-foot facility offers jumps, ramps, night
lighting, and safety fencing. There is no fee to use the Skate Park.
However, all skaters are required to wear helmets and kneepads
while using the facility. Located on Juniper Street just off of Third
Street behind the public tennis courts, this facility has become a
very popular recreation spot for youth of all ages.
RV PARK:
Crook County operates a year-round, 81-space RV
Park. Located at 1040 S. Main St., the park is a full-service facility
with ADA-accessible restrooms and showers. There is handicap
guest parking, as well as Wi-Fi service. The facilities include a bar-
becue area, two tenting areas, and two log cabins for overnight
rental. Spaces have 30-or 50-amp receptacles. Pull-throughs for
up to 70-foot vehicles are available. Basic cable TV is also avail-
able. Pets are welcome in the pet areas. The pavilion is available
to rent on request. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-
609-2599 or 541-447-2599.
OCHOCO LAKE CAMPGROUND:
The District operates and main-
tains the Ochoco Lake Campground and Day Use Area at Ochoco
Lake, seven miles east of Prineville on Highway 26. The camp-
ground is open from April 1 to late October and contains 22 camp-
ing spaces. Camp sites are available on a first come, first serve
basis. Additionally, there are four hiker/biker campsites available.
Ochoco Lake is a great spot for fishing, boating, and picnicking.
The Day Use Area is free. Ochoco Lake is home to the annual
Fishing Derby.
COMMUNITY GARDEN:

to the District offerings.
This Organic Community
Garden is completely
fenced, has ample park-
ing, a storage shed, and
compost bins. For a small
fee, users can cultivate to
their heart’s content.
Water, tools, access, stor-
age, and educational
classes are included in the
seasonal fee.
DOG PARKS:
Crook
County is home to two dog
parks. The largest dog
park is located at Crooked
River Park. The K-9 Korral,
the first dog park, is locat-
ed just up the street at
Rimrock Park. Disposal
bags and bins are provid-
ed at each park.
PARK RESERVATIONS:
Many areas in the parks are available for
reservation by community members and visitors for a variety of
events throughout the year. Park reservations may be made as
early as Jan. 2, and many areas are completely booked for the
summer months well before the season arrives. Some areas, such
as the covered areas, amphitheater, and baseball fields are avail-
able by reservation only. Many areas have horseshoe pits, some
have volleyball courts, and some have softball fields. Sporting
equipment including horseshoes and volleyballs may be checked
out and used during your event at no additional charge.

CROOKED RIVER PARK AND DOG PARK:

The largest park operated by the District, Crooked River Park is
a 30-acre site. Facilities at the park include four baseball/softball
fields, five soccer fields, an outdoor covered Amphitheater, a vol-
leyball court, a two-sided, covered picnic area with ADA-accessible
restrooms, a concession booth, and two children’s playground
areas. The park also has excellent river access to the Crooked
River for fishing and swimming. Crooked River Park hosts the
annual weeklong Boy Scout Campout, the Les Schwab Barbecue,
