Ican still remember watching
my mother in the 60’s walking
out the door, her patent heels
clicking away on the sidewalk,
wearing a brocade sheath
and looking so smart with her pearl
necklace and matching earrings. I
admired her so much and decided at
that moment, I knew I wanted to be
like her when I grew up: self-assured
with a big
smile, soft
perfume,
and beauti-
ful pearls
around my
neck…as
though the
world was
my oyster.
As a teen I worked the jewelry coun-
ter at our local department store and
found myself fascinated with all the
styles, colors and glamour of jewelry.
Soon I had a whole clientele request-
ing that I help them. It was a great
learning experience and introduction
