The eight seniors back with an-
other year of experience in combina-
tion with Fenrich’s leadership and
the new talent have Tinkle tickled
about the upcoming season.
“I think we can slide in there,”
said Tinkle of their chances at mov-
ing up in the league. “It kinda de-
pends on if we can stay healthy and
if we get a couple of girls who really
want to work hard, I think we can be
number one or two in the league.”
Tinkle mentioned the toughness
of big opponents like Sherwood and
Wilsonville, but said the door might
just be open for St. Helens to strike
gold.
“Now, I think this year, this could
be the best cross country team that
we’ve had in a decade. We’re pretty
talented and pretty deep,” said Tin-
kle.
On the boys’ side, the race is open
as well. Wilsonville, who has won the
league title the last two years, gradu-
ated nearly their entire team, and
the opportunity to surpass them is
there for the taking. Jumping to the
top spot would be sweet for the Li-
ons, but the idea is to make it to the
next level, no matter what road they
take to get there.
“Our goal is to get to the state
meet,” Tinkle told his runners.
“Number one and two get to go, and
that’s gonna be us. It’s gonna take a
lot of hard work, but we have a
plan to get there. You follow the
plan, and that gives us every
chance to be one of those teams.”
