40 • THINGS TO DO 2013
T
he Central Oregon area may offer a lot
of recreational opportunities during the
warm summer months, but when the
weather cools and the snow flies, people still
have plenty to do.
The region boasts two skiing destinations,
one of which is widely-regarded as one of
the top ski and snowboard resorts in North
America. Meanwhile, the Deschutes and
Ochoco national forests offer a variety of
snow parks where people can indulge in
winter-weather activities from snowshoeing
and sledding to snowmobiling and cross-
country skiing. If ice skating is more your
style, Central Oregon has a venue for that as
well.

Mount Bachelor
– The resort, situated on a
dormant volcano, boasts an annual snowfall

In addition to the downhill skiing
opportunities, visitors can enjoy a session on
Snowblast Tubing Park or take a sled-dog
ride courtesy of Trail of Dreams dog sled
tours.
