ibernation or migration; what will you do this winter? Perhaps nei-
ther, as December is often a time of hustle and bustle. Preparing
for the holidays, visiting with friends and family, and attending
social events are all fun and games until you or someone you love
gets sick.
Consider these quick and easy tips to prevent the cold and flu
from becoming part of your “December to Remember.”
To stay healthy during the most festive time of the year:
1. Continue with the basics: Stay well hydrated. Indulge sparingly in food
and beverages. Get plenty of sleep. Maintain your exercise routine.
2. Incorporate these immune boosting
essentials: increase vitamins D, B, and C. Herbs
like Elderberry, Echinacea, Osha, Elecampane
and/or Hydrastis may be appropriate depend-
ing on your symptoms. Add in propolis, raw
honey, garlic and zinc for their strong antiviral
and antimicrobial properties. Don’t discount
the power of probiotics; they are the bugs you
want on your
side.

taken into consideration prior to incorporating
certain therapies, it is important to ensure that
treatments and dosages are appropriate for
you. At the Canby Clinic, Drs.Walker and Tuttle

iday season.

any people have money in
Health Savings Accounts
(HSA) that ends up going
unused every year. Did you
know you can use HSA
money for prescription sun-
glasses? Many vision insur-
ance plans also allow you to use your bene-
fit to buy prescription sunglasses.
If you have HSA money that will expire at
the end of the year it is time to think about
using it on some new eyewear.
Integrated Eye Center is a full service opti-
cal shop and the office of
Patrick J. Gregg MD. Dr. Gregg
is a board-certified ophthal-
mologist offering compre-
hensive medical, surgical,
and routine eye care
including: routine vision
exams, diabetic eye
exams, glaucoma, macular
degeneration,
Blepharoplasty, and
advanced no-stitch
cataract surgery.
If you have not
replaced your glasses in a
few years maybe it’s time
to look at getting new eyeglasses. Not
only can it give you a fresh look to have
an updated frame, lens technology has
improved significantly in the last 10
years. No-line bifocals, or progressive
lenses, are now digitally surfaced, pro-
viding a wider field of view in all areas
and reduce or even eliminate distortion
in the peripheral vision. Several meas-
urements are taken to ensure the glass-
es are completely customized. We also
use Crizal antireflective coatings on our
lenses which help provide a crisp clear
lens giving you the best vision correc-
tion with glasses. They reduce the glare
on the surfaces of the lenses and allow
more light to get to the eye.
Photochromatic, or Transitions, lenses
adjust automatically in mild and bright
sunlight, providing protection and comfort
for light sensitivity.
We also have a wide variety of sunglasses.
Even though we aren’t in the full sun season,
just like you wear sunscreen to protect your
skin, you should be wearing quality UV pro-
tecting sunglasses to protect your eyes.
Many people already make use of polarized
sunglasses for summer outdoor activities
such as fishing, boating, hiking, or golfing.
However, as more rain comes in, reflections
from standing water on the road, on your
windshield, or the car in front of view makes
driving conditions more hazardous. A pair of
polarized sunglasses offers the necessary
protection for the eyes as well as provides
clearer vision, cutting through the distract-
ing and blinding glare for added safety.
They also improve vision for winter activities
such as skiing.
