wareness helps in-home care-
givers to know they are not alone.
President Barack Obama pro-
claimed November as National
Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness
Month. He called upon the peo-
ple of the United States to learn more about the
disease and support the individuals living with
this disease and their caregivers.
The proclamation went on to say
“Alzheimer's disease is an irreversible and pro-
gressive brain disease that slowly erodes pre-
cious memories, thinking skills, and the ability
to perform simple tasks. It affects millions of
Americans, including senior citizens as well as
younger Americans with early-onset
Alzheimer's disease.We stand with everyone
confronting the painful reality of an Alzheimer's
diagnosis; lend our support to the families who
care for them; and renew our commitment to
delaying, preventing, and ultimately curing this
disease.”
For the past six years Thelma’s Place has lived
this proclamation by providing respite for in-
home caregivers. They can bring their loved
ones with memory loss to the Adult Day
Program where they are involved in stimulating
activities that challenge them both mentally
and physically. While in this safe environment
their caregivers get to have that valuable time to themselves to take care of their own appoint-
ments, have lunch with a friend or just go home and take a nap.
Studies show that caregivers who do not get a break end up passing away or needing med-
ical care before the person they are taking care of. Stress levels are reduced and the quality of
life improves for both the caregiver as well as
the person needing care when there is a break
for at least 4 hours per week.
The Day Program is open 4 days a week and
costs $50.00 per day. However, no one is ever
turned away for inability to pay.
Often families cannot afford to pay the full
tuition for their loved one to attend the Day
Program. Other families come to Thelma’s Place
who are desperate for a break but can’t afford
to pay anything. You can help Thelma’s Place
continue to provide that invaluable respite or
break to the caregivers.
• For a tax deductible donation of $300
someone can attend the Day Program one day
a week for six weeks.
• A donation of $600 will allow someone to
attend once a week for three months.
• A $1,200 donation will allow someone to
attend for six months.
As we enjoy the beautiful fall season with
leaves changing into brilliant reds, yellows and
oranges we also must remember those at-
home caregivers who are struggling to care for
their loved one with Alzheimer’s or other
dementia. It’s a difficult journey, to be sure, and
one that most people are not prepared for.
They need our help so they don’t feel so alone
and they would appreciate your tax deductible
donation. Thelma’s Place is located at 352 NW 2n Ave. in Canby. Call 503-266-5100 or visit
for information about the caregiver support groups and other programs
offered at Thelma’s Place. You can also download the flyer for the dinner/auction fundraising
event on Feb. 22.

f you haven’t been in to see
Miss Adeline’s since the
reopening in September you
must!
We spent the month of August
giving the boutique a new face.
Along with the new look came
two new faces. Rhonda Wilson and Amy
Thomas have joined Pam Pulioff in this new
venture and have added their beautiful and
handmade items that have made shopping
at Miss Adeline’s even more enjoyable.
Amy designs and creates beautiful and
unique pieces of jewelry. Anyone would love
to give and receive her works of art as a gift.
Rhonda’s line of little girls skirts and
dresses are so darling. If you are an OSU or U
of O fan, you must see the skirts she has
made. Rhonda also has a line of dresses
called “Buttons on the Back”Your little girl
will be adorable in Rhonda’s creations.
Pam is painting pieces of furniture that
will accent any home. If you have a piece of
furniture that needs a new look ask Pam to
paint it. There are several local customers
that have some of Pam’s pieces in their
homes.
Miss Adeline’s has an array of one “of a
kind items”, that are made local. It is a pas-
sion of Pam’s to try and have the
entire store filled with Made in the
USA.“It is a challenge to find merchan-
dise that is made in the US that the
consumer will pay for.
The quality surpasses that of the imports,
but the price is going to be higher. Little by
little she is finding new product that is
“Made in the USA” and local.
We invite you to come in and meet each
of us, we are eager to meet you! We are
located at 136 N. Grant St., in downtown
Canby. You can also check out our website
