Get a bird’s eye view of the birds

reat birding spots are
found throughout the
Portland metropolitan
area.
The Portland Audubon Soci-
ety is working to protect the
state’s valuable bird habitat and
spectacular birding locales by
overseeing Oregon’s 97 Impor-
tant Bird Areas.
These habitat sites are crucial
to our resident and visiting
birds.
The PAS birding community
holds a Birders’ Night the first
Tuesday of each month at 7:30
p.m. in Heron Hall, 5151 N.W.
Cornell Road, Portland. Call 503-
292-6855 for more information.
Following are locations where
bird watching is especially good:
Bird watching
CLACKAMETTE PARK
is a great
place to view birds of many spe-
cies, including blue heron. It lies
at the confluence of the
Willamette and Clackamas rivers
in Oregon City, with easy access
from I-205 and 99E. Visitors
come from miles around to enjoy
the many amenities of the park.
Located at 1955 Clackamette
Drive, the park is 25 acres in size
with boat launch, beach access to
both rivers, restroom facilities,
walking paths, drinking fountains.
TRYON CREEK STATE NATURAL
AREA
, 11321 S.W.Terwilliger Blvd.,
Portland.This park is open dusk to
dark, with the nature center open 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.View birds and
