of the emotion expressed.
Foote, now a Lake Oswego resident, has lived
all over the world, including stints in London,
New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and
Seattle. In Oregon, she has lived in Eugene and
Lake Oswego. She always wanted to see the
world when she was a girl.
DONNA JARVIS
Donna Jarvis didn’t start painting until she
was 60 years old and retired from a career in the
medical field. Now she can’t imagine a day
without painting.
“It’s my life, my passion now,” she said. “It’s
not quite like breathing, but it’s close.”
The Tigard resident had always been crafty,
but it wasn’t until Jarvis took an art class at the
local senior center that she discovered her love
of painting.
Her preferred style of painting is realism,
and she likes to carefully plan her compositions
out in advance.
“With realism, the basis is a good drawing,”
she explained.
Jarvis loves the challenge of capturing
shadow and light and loves to include great
detail.
A native of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest,
Jarvis lived in the Los Angeles area for a short
time, but she missed the rain and despised the
smell of hot asphalt, so she returned to her
home state where she has been ever since.
MAUD DURLAND
Rolling hills as far as the eye can see,
autumn colors in a California vineyard, an
Italian village on a lake, Oregon in the spring:
these are all scenes that can be found in Maud
Durland’s watercolor paintings.
Durland, originally from Sweden, likes to
focus on landscapes and waterscapes. She also
dabbles in still life and florals. Inspired by color,
mood and shadow, Durland’s paintings are
original compositions that capture the essence
of a place.
Many of her paintings feature sights from
Northern California’s Napa Valley. While you
may recognize the setting of her paintings,
chances are you won’t see a recognizable place.
“I prefer to paint things you don’t see in a
postcard,” she said.
Though Durland was always drawing, when
she was young, she didn’t think much of
watercolors.
“I had no paint, no paper, and no patience,”
she said.
Now watercolors is her medium of choice.
Durland lives in Lake Oswego.
Tigard resident Donna Jarvis painted “No Cruising Allowed.”
