September — November 2013
I
n Oregon, where even 90-degree summer
temperatures can’t dry out our perennial
green landscape, we look forward to fall.
Once the pumpkins are on the vine and a chill is felt in the
morning air, we get out our sweaters and blankets and get ready
for the transition season ahead.
Our preparations don’t stop there, however. When it comes to
the arts, those of us living in Washington County begin to take it
indoors for autumn.
This year, lovers of theater can look forward to a couple dozen
stage presentations, from Bag&Baggage Productions’ “The Great
Gatsby” to Beaverton Civic Theatre’s “The Crucible.” Several more
lighthearted productions — Theatre in the Grove stages “Young
Frankenstein” in October and November, and HART Theatre
presents “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” in November — are
in the works as well.
Visual arts enthusiasts will enjoy family arts nights at the
Walters Cultural Arts Center in Hillsboro, artist receptions at
Valley Art in Forest Grove and a photography exhibit at Village
Gallery of Arts in Cedar Mill.
Into music? How about taking in the Great Northwest Music
Tour at McMenamins Grand Lodge, a Hawaiian slack key guitarist
at Pacific University or a concert by the Plaid Tidings at Broadway
Rose Theatre Company in Tigard when the holidays draw near?
SpokenWord and countymuseumevents abound between now
and the New Year as well, not to mention the annual Open Studios
Tour and Painters Showcase. While we may not have it all, there’s
little doubt that as far as the arts go, we have most of it here in
Washington County.
