WASHINGTON COUNTY ARTS GUIDE SEPTEMBER — NOVEMBER 2013
A high-fire stoneware piece by functional potter Anna Quinn.
forms from many cultures have all influenced Grant’s work.
Her pieces have been featured in many shows and exhibits,
publications and books and a television quilting show. She belongs
to several quilting organizations and holds a bachelor’s degree in
fine arts from Idaho State University.
Functional potter
Anna Quinn
retired from teaching regular
curriculum and ceramic art at the daVinci Arts Middle School in
Portland. She holds degrees in anthropology and education and has
been inspired by an archeological tour through the caves of France,
the petroglyphs of the Columbia River Gorge and the work of
ancient Pueblo potters and Mimbres Indians. These images inform
Quinn’s work today.
A large segment of her work tends to be functional bowls, cups,
platters, vases and covered jars glazed with a number of colors. She
uses high-fire porcelain but has also worked in high-fire stoneware.
Quinn’s work has been in the group booth at the last two
Ceramic Showcases at the Oregon Convention Center. Her art has
also been featured at several other shows in the area, and she sells
her work from her studio at the Washington County Open Studios
and at Portland Community College’s Rock Creek campus and the
Multnomah Art Center.
