2013-2014 North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce Business Directory
D
owntown Milwaukie is busy mak-
ing many infrastructure improve-
ments, but is still very much open
for business. Preparations are being
made for the opening of the Portland –
Milwaukie Light Rail and the City is also
busy with road repaving, sidewalk im-
provements and other upgrades. But
with Main Street’s “Restaurant Row”, its
historic soda fountain, Dark Horse Com-
ics world headquarters, and a nationally
recognized chocolatier, the business
activity continues. Business people and
citizens are becoming more involved
and efforts are underway to re-energize
the Main Street Program, both indi-
cators that downtown Milwaukie is
primed for great things to come.
There are many other ways the
City is preparing to capitalize on
Light Rail’s opening in 2015. The
Fresh Look Downtown Project – aimed
at bringing more vitality to the down-
town core, the Neighborhood Main
Streets Project – intended to activate
commercial areas out in the neighbor-
hoods, and the Tacoma Station Area
Plan – preparing an entire neighbor-
hood surrounding that light rail station
for redevelopment, are all examples
of the City proactively preparing to
welcome new people and businesses
to town.
In addition to an up-and-coming
downtown, Milwaukie has a lot to offer
residents and visitors alike: a develop-
ingMilwaukie Riverfront Park, a Sunday
Farmers Market that was named “Best
Market” by the Oregonian, and an arts
culture that is flourishing. First Friday
Arts Walk draws people from around
the region to Downtown Milwaukie to
take in great food, art and music; there
are free lectures and poetry readings
as part of the Ledding Library’s Cultural
Series and Poetry Series; a summer
concert series; and a new speakers
series that is hosted by the Milwaukie
Arts Committee.
Yes, there is a lot of investment in the
community for a more vibrant and ac-
tive future. Milwaukie is open for busi-
ness. Please come join us!
