T
hroughout family-friendly neigh-
borhoods, parks and walking
trails, or at its many community events,
Happy Valley residents can visit with
their neighbors and make new ac-
quaintances. The City keeps its citizens
connected in other ways, as well. Tak-
ing to the airwaves this year, the City
launched its new radio station, AM1700,
where it broadcasts city news and
events, as well as important messages
and information provided by partner-
ing agencies 24 hours a day. Technol-
ogy at City Hall provides visitors with
free wireless internet access, and touch
screen kiosks where they will find infor-
mation about city services, local points
of interest and print out forms and
maps. Facebook followers can click on
the City of Happy Valley’s page for up
to the minute news and happenings.
A well designed, user-friendly website
provides internet users with complete
city services and information and of-
fers citizens a sign-up to receive news
flashes, emergency announcements or
the monthly newsletter.
Happy Valley’s economic and com-
munity development has gained con-
siderable momentum in the last two
years. Residential building construc-
tion activity has increased significantly
and home prices continue to rebound
throughout the Happy Valley area. An
additional commercial building will
soon begin construction in the existing
Happy Valley Town Center shopping
center. A 124-unit senior living facility is
planned at 114th & Sunnyside and mis-
cellaneous commercial development
continues to expand in the city’s grow-
ing business community, particularly
along Sunnyside Road.
The community’s local schools, police,
fire and emergency services offer the
best in education and protection for
Happy Valley’s citizens. Major medical
providers offer easily accessible health
care. Community centered develop-
ment such as a new picnic shelter on
Scouter’s Mountain, a new “gateway”
sign at the northeast corner of 122nd
Avenue & Sunnyside Road, a newly
opened skate park at Happy Valley Park
and major pedestrian and bicycle im-
provements along 145th Avenue and
King Road demonstrate the great pride
and innovation that the City takes in
providing a well-balanced, well-de-
signed community.
