n the course of any given day, Kyra
Bussanich, founder of Kyra’s Bake
Shop, brings smiles to many people’s
faces. What causes the smile to break
out? It could be her vivacious person-
ality or her good looks; and most defi-
nitely she can credit the incredibly de-
licious gluten-free goodies she bakes
with bringing smiles to even the
crankiest among us. What is causing big
smiles to grow even wider is the release of
Bussanich’s new cookbook, “Sweet Crav-
ings: 50 Seductive Desserts for a Gluten-
free Lifestyle.”
Now home bakers can create her deli-
cious recipes in their own kitchen.
“Gluten-free baking can be very intimi-
dating to newcomers,” Bussanich said in an
interview with
Review reporter
Cliff
Newell.
“My book has
been designed
to show what
are the easy,
i n t e r me d i a t e
and advanced
recipes. I don’t
want people to
get discouraged
and give up.” She
said the book
also shares tips
on working with gluten-free ingredients.
“Each of my products has a distinct tex-
ture so I use different blends.”
Bussanich said she was approached
about four years ago by a publisher, and
that the book idea has been “simmering
for quite a while.” She, however, was busy
winning “Cupcake Wars” on the Food
Network and launching her baking mixes
for retail sales. She has won tons of fans
with her gluten-free cakes and cupcakes,
cinnamon rolls, scones and more. Check
the daily menu of baked goods online at
her website (kyrasbakeshop.com) or just
drop by the shop.
The web site sums up Bussanich’s mis-
sion quite nicely: “Our commitment to
high-quality treats at Kyra’s Bake Shop
means that you can indulge and still feel
good, since you know you’re getting your
treats from a 100 percent gluten-free fa-
cility. All the satisfaction, without the
worry.”
Book signing events have begun and
copies of “Sweet Cravings” can be pur-
chased on Amazon.com, Barnes and
Noble, Indiebooks, Google Books, iBook-
store and at Kyra’s Bake Shop, 460 Fifth
Street in Lake Oswego.
