Fall’s Bounty
S
ure, we’re sad to see sum-
mer making its exit - after
all, we’re only human.
However, we’d be lying if
we didn’t admit to gazing longing-
ly at our cozy sweaters and stylish
new boots, and thumbing through
cookbooks for cold weather soups,
stews and slow-cooker recipes.
And the kids are back in school,
which gives us a little sigh of relief,
too. Fall is here and we’re happy to
welcome her!
Speaking of recipes that scream
Fall, local baker extraordinaire,
Kyra Bussanich of Kyra’s Bake
Shop, shares her gluten-free recipe
for Apple Crisp on page 7. Kyra’s
new cookbook, Sweet Cravings:
50 Seductive Desserts for a Gluten-Free Lifestyle,
is now available for all of us to learn how to make
some delicious baked goodies.
It wouldn’t be Fall without a little Fall fashion to
entice us to update our wardrobe. With the help of
three Lake O boutique owners and managers, Sherry
Dorn manages to tease us right out of our slippers
and through these shop doors! The featured outfits
are SICK (as the kids say) and our wallets are twitch-
ing in our purses just begging to be opened!
As you probably know, there’s been
a change of guard at the Lake Oswego
School Foundation with Mary Puskas’s
retirement. We were curious to learn
more about Mary’s successor, Sara
Patinkin, so we asked Jillian Daley to
get the scoop. Learn more about Sara
on page 4.
Need some Halloween costume
inspiration? Nicole DeCosta went
in search of some of the best past
costumes of Lake Oswego residents
and business owners. Check out
page 8 for some creative ideas. Oh,
and if you still need help, Lakewood
Theatre Company is having their
annual costume sale the weekend of
October 11-13!
This cooler weather may tempt
you to curl up on the couch with hot cocoa and a
good book, but there’s plenty to do out and about in
LO this month. Take, for example, the Storytelling
Festival at the Library - learn to tell better stories, or
just sit back and enjoy listening to others tell them.
And don’t forget, this is the last month for Farmers’
Market. Another sign that yes, indeed, Fall is here.
So don your new boots and cozy sweaters, and em-
brace her bounty!
