Billy and the Rockets
Mix a little country twang with cool Mississippi Delta Blues, and velvety
Gospel harmonies and you create a musical potion that will have you tappin'
your toes to one of the hottest specialty bands to hit the Northwest. "Billy &
the Rockets", a five piece combo of "hep cats" led by veteran entertainer, Bill
Coleman.
Bill “Rock'a'Billy” Coleman
has been performing as a professional enter-
tainer since 1973. Coleman is a a diverse, stand out single entertainer/musi-
cian who has performed in some of the Northwest's most popular resorts and
clubs for the past 35 years.
Jack “Smilin' Jack” Dawes
has been playing drums since he was just a lad.
Jack's broad musical tastes and versatility have him performing with a num-
ber of working bands, spanning the musical spectrum from Big Band Swing
to Rockabilly with some of the Northwest’s finest musicians.
Dave “The Big Bopper” Fitch
began his musical career while attending
high school in Long Beach, Calif. He has taught himself the acoustic, electric
and lap steel guitar; mandolin; Irish tin whistle; mountain and hammered dul-
cimer; and banjo, and currently, divides his musical talents between “The
Good News Gospel String Band” and “Billy & the Rockets”.
Ken “Mr. Bassman”Oschner
started his bass career playing the tuba in The
Salem Pops Orchestra, The Chehalem Valley Orchestra, and The Newberg
Community Band.
Warren “Animal” Parrish
claims his influence by the style and sound of
Ringo Starr since he taught himself the drums by playing along with “Beatles”
records. A native of Oregon he spent his teen years working as a professional
musician and session drummer throughout the Pacific Rim.
Barry “Saxy Man” Benson
is the most recent addition to the Rockets.
Barry brings his jazz influenced saxophone to spice up the mix. A background
of traditional jazz serves his playing very, very well. Hear Barry shine on songs
like "Tequila," "Yakety Yak," and steamy love songs like "In the Still of the
Night," "Fly Me To the Moon," or our own, "Looking For What I Find."
