Dr. Lynn Kadwell of Pacific Medical Group is retiring Sept. 1. After 42 years
of devoted medical service to the Canby Community, Pacific Medical Group
of Canby announces the retirement of Dr. Lynn Kadwell.
Dr. Kadwell was born in Coldwater, Michigan and
began his career studying voice at Ohio’s Oberlin
Conservatory of Music.
While in college he met his wife, Diane. They married
in 1959.
When Dr. Kadwell realized that music may not be the
career he wanted, he changed his major to Physical
Education. A professor suggested Dr. Kadwell consider
becoming a doctor. At first he said,“no” but he could
not get the idea of going to medical school out of his
head. Encouraged by Diane, he entered medical school
when he was 28 years old.
He received his medical degree from the Chicago
Osteopathic Medicine School in 1969 and completed a
Family Practice internship at Mt. Clemens Osteopathic
Hospital in Mt. Clemens, Mich. in 1970.
Dr. Kadwell was inspired to vacation in Oregon after reading Zane Grey’s
descriptions of the Pacific Northwest. In the Portland area, he inquired about
practice opportunities and was told that there was an
opportunity in Canby.
He thought Canby was paradise and began practic-
ing here in August 1971.
During that time, Dr. Kadwell would see 35-40
patients each day and an office visit charge was only
$6. He made house calls to the bedridden. There
weren’t any emergency rooms and Dr. Kadwell was
often called to treat patients at Oregon City and
Willamette Falls Hospitals. From approximately 1971 to
2008, Dr. Kadwell delivered over 75 babies in the area.
Some of the babies he delivered are now his patients as
adults.
Over 42 years of practice, he has seen medicine really
change but still feels,“The best doctor truly has a heart
for his patients." Being a doctor in the Canby communi-
ty has been his privilege and he thinks his patients
have been the best part of practicing medicine. It is the privilege of all at
Pacific Medical Group to have worked with him.
Dr. Kadwell and his wife have been married 54 years and have two sons,
Richard and David, a granddaughter and a grandson. For the past 16 years,
Dr. Kadwell has visited Ensenada, Mexico twice a year to do mission work for
Olive Tree Children’s Ministries.
He plans on continuing his mission work.

Not only did the float win the
2013 Most Unique Float trophy, the
band playing on the float are all stu-
dents of Brian, owner of Canby
Music.
The band, In Retrospect, is made
up of up Robyn on bass/vocals, who
has been taking lessons for 4½
years; Chase on drums/vocals; who
has been taking lessons for 2 years;
and Shea on electric guitar/vocals
who has been taking lessons for 3
years.
All three students showed an
interest in forming a group, and
Brian suggested that they contact
each other. He assisted them initial-
ly with some easy songs so they
could learn to play as a group.
After that they worked on their
own as a group with Brian assisting
them individually during their les-
sons as needed and meeting with
them occasionally to offer pointers.

Brian, who offers lessons, begin-
ning to advanced for the guitar,
drums, bass and ukulele, offers his
students a chance to play publicly,
through a series of open mic/jam
sessions at The Place to Be Café. Not
everyone wants to or has to play
live, but if a student is interested,
he’ll help them find the opportunity.
He is also your local source for
guitars, amps and accessories, music
books, drums sets and accessories,
reeds and maintenance kits for
band students. He is also a great
