W
hether you want to
beautify your yard
or grow your own
dinner, Oregon
has a bounty of resources avail-
able for the home gardener.
Sometimes just visiting one of
the state’s many nurseries or
garden centers can open your
eyes to a world of possibilities
for your home landscape, wheth-
er your interest is sparked by
edible and sustainable design,
exotic bamboos and tropical spe-
cies or rare ornamental shrubs
and trees.
Bosky Dell inWest Linn is a
bit off the beaten path but is a
destination for plant species na-
tive to the Pacific Northwest. It
also carries creative, shabby-
chic garden décor, often with a
focus on reused or repurposed
materials.
Need expert tips, help identify-
ing a bug or ideas for dealing
with specific gardening dilem-
mas? Get in touch with one of
Oregon State University Exten-
sion Service’s master gardeners,
volunteers trained to offer gar-
dening information and educa-
tional opportunities. Master gar-
deners can offer guidance for
how to take better care of your
yard, help diagnose plant prob-
lems and offer tips and tech-
niques for maintaining your
plants. For details, including hot-
line numbers and workshops,
visit metromastergardeners.org.
The Hardy Plant Society of
Oregon is a membership-based
organization that offers plant
sales, open garden tours and ed-
ucational events and activities
throughout the year. You can
connect with other passionate
gardeners of all skill levels or
get insider access to open gar-
den tours, plant and garden art
sales and workshops; learn
more at hardyplantsociety.org.
The Oregon Association of
Nurseries (oan.org) offers a
range of resources, including a
searchable database of plants
and a map and listing of nurser-
ies and garden centers through-
out the entire state.
