Agriculture is a constant factor in the
Crook County economy, and
although they are not large employ-
ers, data centers are also major
players in the county’s economic
picture. Other sectors, including
retail trade, professional and busi-
ness services, and leisure and hos-
pitality have grown — adding bal-
ance to Crook County’s employ-
ment base.
While the timber industry
helped sustain Crook County’s
economy for years, the county
has been proactive in recruiting
and retaining more diverse forms
of industry. In the last three
years, Prineville has become
home to two data centers, in
addition to several smaller, but
innovative companies. The
County has also taken some important steps in
rebuilding the local railroad. In all, Crook County is learning how to diversi-
fy and utilize their most available resources. Farmers and ranchers have also become
resourceful in an economy that is constantly challenging the most resilient landowners.
