BUSINESS IN CROOK COUNTY
Although Prineville is the oldest commu-
nity in Central Oregon, it now claims home
to business giants such as Facebook and
Apple.
Despite the changes, Prineville has deep
roots in agriculture, forest products, the
railroad, and manufacturing. The communi-
ty draws strength from its people and com-
munity leaders, who are united in their
efforts to grow and diversify Crook County’s
economic base. Crook County is a great
place to do business. The small-town
atmosphere, friendly faces, and low costs
of doing business have attracted a wide
variety of small and large businesses.
The county boasts more than 2,500
acres of buildable light and heavy industri-
al lands, much of which is ready for devel-
opment. The county also has an enterprise
zone and renewable energy zone in place,
both which offer tax incentives to qualify-
ing companies to help offset the cost of
business.
With the recent passage of legislation
that protects data centers from central
assessment, one of the world’s largest
technology corporations, Apple, Inc., has
taken advantage of these incentives. They
joined social network giant Facebook in
establishing their enterprise in one of the
largest industrial parks in Crook County —
Baldwin and Tom McCall — just off Highway
126.
State, city and county government, and
schools still account for the largest amount
of family-wage jobs in Crook County. They
are closely followed by ownerships, private
coverage, trade, transportation, and utility

Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber
Board of Directors is chosen by the mem-
bership through an election each June.
