Petunia
by Roger Duvoisin
Petunia, the goose, learns that possessing knowledge doesn’t mean carrying a book around
constantly. Charming classic.
Too Tall Houses
by Gianna Marino
An owl and a rabbit are friendly neighbors until their competitive
house-building spree inconveniences them both. Marino’s illustra-
tions are masterful and the book’s message about the perils of over-
consumption will be appreciated by all ages. Utterly delightful!
Lucky Ducklings
by Eva Moore
The true story of how a mother duck and five ducklings were
rescued, by three firefighters and a bystander, after falling down a
storm drain in Montauk, New York. The illustrations in this 2013 book have
an old-fashioned feel.
Picture a Tree
by Barbara Reid
This new release celebrates trees during all seasons with simple, well-chosen words. The
pictures range from the whimsical to the flat-out gorgeous.
Grades 1-3

other girl who seems obnoxious. A touching coming-of-age story.
Frindle
by Andrew Clements
When he decides to turn his fifth grade teacher’s love of the dictionary around on her,
clever Nick Allen invents a new word and begins a chain of events that quickly moves
beyond his control. A masterful author who understands kids.
The Last Musketeer
by Stuart Gibbs
In Paris with his parents to sell family heirlooms, Greg suddenly
finds himself four hundred years in the past, working with the boys
who will one day be known as the “Three Musketeers.” An histori-
cal adventure laced with intrigue and suspense.
Ungifted
by Gordon Korman
After eighth-grade troublemaker Donovan Curtis pulls a major
school prank, he ends up in a program for gifted students due to an
administrative mix-up. He discovers his own talent for helping the students
there be more “normal.” A fun read with an important message.
Frogged
by Vivian Vande Velde
This re-working of The Frog Prince stars twelve-year-old Princess Imogene, who turns into
a frog. Her escapades, as she tries to break the spell and become herself again, will keep
readers turning the pages.
Grades 7-12
Period 8
by Chris Crutcher
This new release includes a mystery of a missing classmate and a school bully. A high
school story written by one of the most distinguished teen authors.
The Bomb
by Steve Sheinkin
This award-winning nonfiction book is a fascinating account of the
scientific discoveries that enabled atom splitting, the military intel-
ligence operations that occurred in rival countries, and the work of
brilliant scientists hidden at Los Alamos.
Impulse
by Steven Gould
Cent, 16, triggers an avalanche while illegally snowboarding and
discovers her own ability to teleport. This suspenseful tale is the
third in a trilogy, but it stands alone. The first book, Jumper, was
made into a movie.

t’s that time of year again. Fall is in the air, leaves are beginning to find their path
earthward and you’re thinking about books and reading materials not only for your-
self, but for your school-age children. With the help of our friends at the Lake Oswego
Public Library, we’ve compiled an age-sensitive list of some of the best books on the
market for your child. This small sampling will, hopefully, entice and inspire your young
one to further reading adventures throughout the year. For more ideas and suggestions, you
can always contact the friendly resource librarians at (503) 636-7628.
