ou don’t have to go far

to check out your local

farmers market. West

Linn, Lake Oswego,

Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin,

Hillsboro, Sherwood and Cedar

Mill all have popular ones that

give you a chance to buy fresh-

from-the-ground food direct

from local farms, interact with

the growers and mingle with

your neighbors.

Each market has a flair of its

own; in addition to offering its

own mix of fruits, vegetables,

meat, eggs and plants, some al-

low vendors to sell ready-to-eat

treats like mini donuts, hot sau-

sages and fresh-squeezed straw-

berry lemonade. Others feature

artisans showcasing their fra-

grant soaps, quirky birdhouses,

soy candles, beaded jewelry, pa-

tio pottery and more. Depending

on the week, you might be able

to find demonstrations, activi-

ties for kids and live entertain-

ment.

Some even have winter or hol-

iday markets, to keep local shop-

ping a year-long tradition.

After years of vendors only

accepting cash, some markets

are starting to sell tokens that

can be purchased with debit

cards at the information booths.

There are more than 150

markets around the state, each

offering different hours, loca-

tions and goods. For more in-

websites for anyone interested

in the farm-fresh food move-

ment. Get on your market’s
