Community festivals to pick from
There’s no shortage of
A
ny community
worth its salt has at
least one rip-roaring
community festival
capable of pulling even the
most unsociable citizen out of
his recliner and out into the
open air. Lake Oswego wor-
ships art, Tigard goes bonkers
for hot-air balloons. In Sher-
wood, they drank the Robin
Hood Kool-Aid decades ago,
Tualatin reveres the crawfish,
and West Linn and Beaverton
invented festivals based on
old-time fun and park-based
partying, respectively.
What follows is a partial
list, complete with websites
and phone numbers.
Party on.
Cruisin’ Sherwood Classic
& Custom Car Show (cruisin-
sherwood.com) — Held in ear-
ly June in downtown Sher-
wood, features more than 500
classics and custom cars.
Tenth Annual West Coast
Giant Pumpkin Regatta (tu-
alatinoregon.gov/recreation/
pumpkin-regatta) — This is a
series of wacky races around
the Lake of the Commons in
downtown Tualatin in
1,000-pound pumpkin boats.
Lake Oswego Festival of
the Arts (lakewood-center.org/
pages/festival-of-the-arts) —
Held Friday, Saturday and
Sunday on the third weekend
in June at Lakewood Center
for the Arts, George Rogers
Park and Marylhurst Universi-
ty.
Ninth Annual Favorite
Five Country Farms Holiday
Tour (503-6821604 / favorite-

— Held Nov. 29-Dec. 15 be-
tween Wilsonville and Sher-
wood, the event features farm
boutiques, pet-friendly ani-
mals, food, art, gifts and
Christmas trees.
Party in the Park and
Classic at T-Hills (thprd.org/
events/partyinthepark.cfm) —
Held the last Saturday in July,
at the Howard M. Terpenning
Recreation Complex at 158th
and Walker Road in Beaver-
ton, from 11 a.m. To 5 p.m.
Sherwood Robin Hood
Festival (robinhoodfestival.
org) — For 60 years now, Sher-
wood has been honoring the
memory of Robin Hood with a
parade, music and numerous
events. Held the third weekend
of July.
Tigard Festival of Balloons
(503-612-8204 / tigardballoon.
org) — Held on the third week-
end in June at Tigard’s Cook
Park, the event features early-
morning balloon launches,
then a full day of rides, food,
music, a car show and more.
Tualatin Crawfish Festival
(tualatincrawfishfestival.com/)
—What began as a Saturday-
only event has now grown to
include Friday night activities,
too. Held the second weekend
of August, there’s food, music,
a parade, dog show, crawfish
eating and more.
Washington County Fair
and Rodeo (bigfairfun.com) —
Held the last weekend of July
(Thursday through Sunday) at
the county fairplex in Hills-
boro, it features all the usual
county fair events: animals,
rides, entertainment and much
more.
