Willamette Falls Festival and Lock Fest are
thrilled to offer guided tours of two local pa-
per mills, one open and operating, one closed
and ripe for redevelopment. All tours are
FREE and will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5,
on a very limited basis. Pre-registration is
required.
Tour requirements are very specific, due to
safety protocols.

Limited to high-mobility visitors. Must
be able to walk for over a mile on uneven sur-
faces, with stairs and steps.
Must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes,
work or hiking boots.
Must be 16 years old and older for the
West Linn tour.
Must be 18 and older for the Blue Her-
on tour.
All tours are one hour long. Please ar-
rive 15 minutes before scheduled tour.
Paper & Power Tours
Walk with guides on Mill Island and see
West Linn Paper Company in operation, the
fish ladder, and Portland General Electric
(PGE) power plant. Tours begin at the top of
each hour from 9 a.m., with the final tour at 3
p.m. Register at Lock Fest on Mill Street and
receive an admission ticket. Signups start at
8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. First come, first
served. Photography will be limited. Safety
glasses, vests and ear plugs will be provided.
Blue Heron Paper Mill Site Tour
Walk with guides Tony Konkol and Chris-
tina Robertson-Gardiner of the Willamette
Falls Legacy Project (
falls.com). See the mill building, walls from
the Oregon City Woolen Mill, amazing views
of Willamette Falls and the river, and learn
about redevelopment planning. Tours will be-
gin at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Two separate
tours will run simultaneously each hour with
ten people per tour guide. Pre-registration is
essential. Go to WillametteFallsFestival.com,
or sign up in the main pavilion tent to register
and complete a Waiver and Release of Liabil-

Museum Open
Free self-guided tours of the Willamette
Falls Locks Museum, which sits on the edge
of the canal, will be available for fully-mobile
visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Locks Muse-
um is a federal historic site, opened in 1974
after the 100th birthday of the locks and their
placement on the National Register of His-
toric Places.
