Every year, the recipients of Troutdale’s Citizen of the
Year and Youth of the Year award are honored after the
SummerFest Parade. is year’s Citizen of the Year is Jon
Brown. Brown is president of the Troutdale Lions Club,
and has worked hard to expand what the club o ers the
community, such as the Lions’ spaghetti dinner in honor
of veterans. He serves on Troutdale’s Public Safety
Advisory Committee, is part of the Troutdale Terrace
neighborhood watch, and volunteers each year with the
Troutdale Police Department/Multnomah County
Sheri ’s Department toy drive. It has been said of Brown,
“If anyone needs anything, any time of the day or night,
he will not hesitate to be at your side at a moment’s
notice.”
Youth of the Year Rebecca Larsen just nished her Senior
year at Reynolds High School. She is an artist, and serves
as the RHS Art Club president. As president, she has
organized fund raisers for the Art Club Scholarship,
assisted with the RHS Art Auction, and coordinated the
annual making of holiday cards for residents at Clare
Bridge Memory Care. Whenever RHS students do not
have school, Larsen goes to Lynch View Elementary
School to help as a classroom assistant. Larsen plans to
attend Mount Hood Community College in the fall with
the intention of continuing on to a degree in elementary
education through Eastern Oregon University. She hopes
to spend this summer painting and teaching students in
the local Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) program.
Her art teacher, Ms. Rulli, says, “Her ability in the arts is
exceptional.”
e Troutdale Lions Club has chosen Troutdale Chief of
Police Scott Anderson for its Sam Cox Humanitarian of
the Year Award. e Lions Club cites Chief Anderson’s
service to the department and to the community. In
addition to his leadership on the job, Chief Anderson was
instrumental in getting the bond measure passed which
funded Troutdale’s new Police Community Center. He also
is a big part of the annual Troutdale Police Department/
Multnomah County Sheri ’s Department toy drive each
December and the National Night Out each August.
Recently Chief Anderson volunteered at Reynolds High
School’s Challenge Day, which is aimed at empowering
students and ghting bullying and peer pressure.

ere will be two trolleys provided by Portland Trolley
at SummerFest, running between Glenn Otto Park,
downtown Troutdale, Troutdale Elementary and
McMenamins Edge eld. Troutdale Elementary is a
great place to park with no time limit, and you can
catch the trolley during the afternoon to take you to
and from the SummerFest festivities in Glenn Otto
Park. Because the trolleys will be participating in the
parade, they won’t be available in the morning. You
can also take the trolleys to downtown Troutdale to
enjoy its restaurants, cafés and galleries, and to
McMenamins Edge eld, with its restaurants, winery
and gardens. Trolleys are sponsored by McMenamins
and the City of Troutdale.
