PILOTS AND BALLOONS
chael’s knowledge of the culinary arts in-
dustry and experience within it has made
him a valuable asset — in his spare time, he
provides consulting services to small up-and-
coming cheese makers and helps to grow Eu-
ropean special-
ty food brands.
In 2011, Michael
founded a non-
profit, Tomor-
rows’ Chefs,
which inspires
“at-risk” high
school students
to graduate and
pursue a career
in the culinary
arts via a spe-
cialized pro-
gram, which
not only fosters
community, but matches students with local
mentors and culminates with a scholarship
to a culinary arts institution. When he’s not
working, Michael is devoted and focused on
his vast range of hobbies, which include trav-
eling to off-the-beaten-track destinations (he
has seen the world from the summit of Mt.
Kilimanjaro); piloting the Beemster Cheese
hot-air balloon; and developing his travel
company, which combines his loves — travel,
art, and food — and provides the food-savvy
traveler with behind-the-scenes experiences
while on vacation.
Visitors can take tethered rides
during the Festival of Balloons.
Below, hot-air balloon enthusiasts
photograph the action at Cook
Park as crews inflate their colorful
aircrafts.
