Once described
as “one of the most
attractive residences
erected in Irvington”,
this 3-story, 1914
house had not been
treated kindly. It was
worn out from the wiring to the bath-
rooms, habitable but not comfortable,
and yet loved by its owners.
But this is where they
wanted to remain…
home for their lifetime.
The visionary team of
T.H.E. Remodel Group
and Z3 Design Studio transformed this
house into a home to age as gracefully as
its owners. Keeping the period character
and original mahogany woodwork, the
interior was redesigned to accommodate
the changing needs of aging without
looking institutional.
The entire home was rewired and made
more energy efficient. The exterior was
painted. The roof was replaced.
Now the lower level has a large cozy
family room, new half bath and hobby
room, which can later become caregiver’s
quarters. The main level is perfect for
entertaining with the welcoming foyer, liv-
ing room with an Acquisitions of London
“Peace & Plenty” fireplace, formal dining
room, stunning universally accessible
bathroom and beautiful redesigned
kitchen with all the modern amenities.
On the upper level, the master bedroom
is a peaceful haven with its refurbished
fireplace, quiet sitting area and period-
styled wardrobes. The once cramped
bathroom has been transformed into
a rejuvenating oasis with his and hers
cherry vanities flanking a beautiful curved,
walk-in glass and tile shower. The former
sleeping porch, now a sunny office space,
is nestled between a sewing studio and
the Gentlemen’s Retreat (the perfect spot
for a scotch and watching sports).
With the warm color palate comple-
menting the rich mahogany woodwork,
modern amenities, adaptability and uni-
versal design, this grand old house now
has a new life…it’s a home for life.
