The family fell
in love with their
“English Charmer” in
the fall of 2007. The
home had beautiful
views of the Portland
skyline and plenty
of room for entertaining — plus it was
in a neighborhood full of charming
architecture.
Arciform started off by making the
existing square footage work better for
their needs. Designer Anne De Wolf created
a design that opened up the floor plan,
maximized the existing footprint and
created a flow that reflected the character
of the original home, enhancing the ability
to entertain — inside and out.
On the main floor entryway, the
mishmash of arch styles separating the
rooms was unified by one cohesive look.
Moving from the entry into the living room,
a large picture window was replaced with
double doors, allowing access to the flat
rooftop over the garage. The original den
— located between the kitchen and living
room—was converted into the dining
room, and the original dining room space
was converted into a tranquil library.
The back of the house is flat with the
exception of a bay in the kitchen, where the
roof was extended to create a delightful
covered area for entertaining on those oh-
so-rare rainy days in the summer.
Upstairs, the original bathroom and
a sewing room were combined to
create a master bath, modest in size
but full of charm and details, featuring
a sophisticated combination of cool
white-on-white finishes and
playful found objects and
antiques.
On the main floor, a new
wash closet, with a vintage
vanity with three-winged
mirror and a beautiful light
fixture, create great shadow
play in a small space.
