Molalla River is classroom for free teacher seminars
Seminars organized and sponsored by Molalla River Alliance and Molalla H.S.
MOLALLA — The Molalla River watershed will be the classroom for a series of field seminars for school teachers that
will be presented in April and May by the Molalla River Alliance.
The MRA has recruited experts in their fields of study to lead outdoor seminars in geology, flora and fauna, fisheries,
water quality and forestry. The aim is to help interested teachers develop place-based curricula for their students across a
range of disciplines, using the Molalla River watershed as the classroom.
Participation is open to teachers from all grade levels and all disciplines in the Molalla-Colton-Canby area. Enrollment is
limited to 12 teachers -- to be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no charge for the seminars. Lunch and
transportation will be provided, as well as teaching materials.
The seminars are being organized and sponsored by the Molalla River Alliance in collaboration with Molalla High School
science teacher Joe Zenisek, under a grant from the Oregon Community Foundation. Teachers wishing to participate should
reserve a place by emailing
promptly.
The MRA (molallariveralliance.org) is a nonprofit organization working to protect and enhance water quality, fisheries,
wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities in the Molalla River Corridor. Outreach and education about the Molalla and
its watershed is a key priority.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Kurt Schrader today
released the following statement after House Passage of H.R.
933, a bill that would continue government funding through the
end of fiscal year 2013 at 2012 levels with included provisions
to allow the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs some
flexibility in dealing with sequestration cuts:
“I voted against the continuing resolution today, because it
again punts our budget problems down the road and sets us up
for further political brinksmanship,” said Rep Schrader. “It
does not honor the bipartisan Budget Control Act, repeal the
irresponsible sequester or even begin to tackle our nation’s
long-term cost drivers – a broken tax system and the skyrock-
eting costs of healthcare.
“Congress needs to wake up and realize the American people
are sick and tired of us playing small ball with our nation’s
financial troubles and that doing so has brought us hardly any
real economic certainty or job growth. We in Congress must be
courageous and solve our financial problems together by pass-
ing a big, bold budget that lays everything on the table, puts the
United States back on a path of long-term fiscal sustainability
and stimulates economic competitiveness and investment. That
is what Oregonians, the American people and I remain deter-
minedly committed to.”
