North Clackamas has high
standards and exceptional
educators, encouraging parent
involvement and create strong
bonds with area businesses.
H
appy Valley schools are part of the North
Clackamas School District 12 which serves
more than 40 square miles and is located
12 miles from downtown Portland. Included
are the incorporated cities of Milwaukie, Happy
Valley, and Johnson City, parts of Damascus, and the
neighborhoods of Oak Grove, Concord, Clackamas,
Sunnyside, Mount Scott, Southgate, and Carver.
Within the City boundaries there are five elementary
schools and two middle schools. The Happy Valley
middle schools feed into Clackamas High School.
Students are provided a varied curriculum aligned with
state standards. Subjects include language arts, social
sciences, math, health, physical education, world lan-
guages, science, music and more.
The demographics of the City account for a high
percentage of volunteers (close to 9,000 annually)
and parental and citizen input on advisory boards and
site councils. In 2012, North Clackamas school volun-
teers contributed work time equivalent to 115 full time
employees.
NCSD12 enjoys strong relationships within the busi-
ness community. As a result, its students have con-
stant opportunities for ‘real world’ learning. Parents
benefit from the local businesses’ sponsorship of the
Parent Institute, where dozens of free parent classes,
conferences and evening classes are offered.

“I feel very fortunate to teach in this same area, where
there is unparalleled support of our schools, and me
as a teacher. The connection that I feel
with the ‘Happy Valley family’ allows
me to do my part in trying to make a
difference.”
