A
great way to escape the wind,
rain and overcast of autumn is
to take the family to B.J. Wil-
ly’s Woodfired Pizza & Pub at
Progress Ridge TownSquare. It’s not just
pizza that makes this a favorite Beaverton
destination. You’ll find an extensive menu
that features wood-fired pizzas, appetiz-
ers, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers,
Italian-inspired dishes, pub grub favorites
and a list of yummy sides.
It’s the pub atmosphere that B.J.Willy’s
wants customers to enjoy. Owner Brian
Johnson seeks to create a casual, but so-
phisticated
pub
that’s both family
and neighborhood
friendly. If you’re
not familiar with
B.J. Willy’s, you’ll
soondiscover anold-
world way of cook-
ing pizzas.
“We only use
wood,”
Johnson
said. “Our oven came from Italy – the tech-
nology goesway back – this is an old school
way of producing pizza.”
In an oven that reaches 700 degrees,
these pizzas cook quickly. “The pizza
cooks in the oven between 2 ½ and 3 min-
utes,” Johnson said, adding that the cook-
ing process creates a little charring to the
crust, which gives the pizza a nutty flavor.
On the Italian-inspired menu, Johnson
said some favorites include lasagna and
Creamy Chicken Marsala. The Chicken
Marsala features sauteed chicken breast
bathed in Marsala wine sauce, complete
with garlic, mushrooms and cream. This
tasty dish is served over linguine.
If a member of your family prefers a
burger or sandwich, B.J. Willy’s has a lot
to offer. A big seller, Johnson said, is the
Cowboy Burger, which has slow-roast-
ed pulled pork, barbecue sauce, ched-
dar cheese, jack cheese and crisp onion
strings.
The pizza menu includes the Blind On-
ion, the Italian Stallion and the Mac-N-
Cheese pizza. The largest selling pizza is
“The Brick,” which features tomato sauce,
fresh mozzarella, topped with Italian sau-
sage, pepperoni, salami, mushrooms and
black olives. For those who like it hot, try
the Fire Pie with fire-roasted jalapeno
peppers.
“You just have to be ready to sweat
through that one,” Johnson said.
B.J. Willy’s is a great location to enjoy
an adult beverage, a burger and a game on
a large-screen television set. Sit back and
savor any of their 16 beers that they have
on tap. Johnson said
at least half of the
beers are rotated on
a regular basis. A
variety of local and
California
wines
are offered by the
glass and by the
bottle. B.J. Willy’s
also offers a full bar.
Speaking of his Progress Ridge neigh-
bor, Cinetopia, Johnson said, “Catch a
movie and come down and have dinner
with us.”
