In the 1980s Chip Sammons had a dream:
What if there was a pet store that only sold
products with all good ingredients? No toxic
chemical flea collars, harsh shampoos or artifi-
cial preservatives, flavors or colors in dog and
cat food? Since no such store existed, he cre-
ated one in 1988 and called it the Holistic Pet
Center. He even registered it with the State of
Oregon as “The Health Food Store for Pets.”
Now, 25 years and many local and national
awards later, Chip is still doing what he loves
by sharing great information and wonderful
products at the Holistic Pet Center. He does a
live, one-hour radio program every week, has
written a book on natural flea control, and has
co-founded a great nonprofit. Chip has also
become a national spokesman for the holistic
movement. Not only is he routinely quoted
in national pet magazines, but last year the
Holistic Pet Center was awarded the national
“Holistic Pet Store of the Year” by Pet Product
News magazine. Two years ago Oregon Business
Magazine named Chip one of Oregon’s 50 top
leaders.
“I met Chip years ago when he was President
of the North Clackamas County Chamber of
Commerce, and also that same year President
of the Board of Directors at CCI Enterprises,
a Milwaukie nonprofit who trains and employs
adults with disabilities,” said Angela Fox, pub-
lisher of the Clackamas Review and Oregon
City News. “Chip has become a tireless advo-
cate for the Children’s Center of Clackamas
County and Clackamas Women’s Services, and
is currently on the board of the Clackamas Busi-
ness Alliance, and co-founded Friends Involved
in Dog Outreach (FIDO) in order to assist the
dog shelter in Clackamas.”
“Last year the SBA has named Chip the Small
Business Person of the Year for the State of Or-
egon!”
Also, he has just received the Irwin Adams Life-
time Community Achievement Award from the
North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce!

Born in Zimbabwe, Africa, Captain Emman-
uel Masango grew up a member of The Salva-
tion Army church there. In 2002, he moved to
the U.S. and settled in Spokane, WA, where he
volunteered at The Salvation Army and worked
at The Salvation Army Camp Gifford. While
working there, he met his wife, Jennifer. After
getting married, Captains Masango felt called
to become Salvation Army Officers, and in June
2008, they graduated from The Salvation Army
College for Officer Training!
Captains Masango were appointed to The
Salvation Army Tualatin Valley Corps in Hills-
boro where they were responsible for coordinat-
ing all the social services, church ministry, and
spiritual development programs. Together with
staff and volunteers, the Tualatin Valley Citadel
serves over 20,000 clients throughout Washing-
ton County each year!
Starting July 1st, 2013, Captain Masango
and his wife will be moving into an exciting new
role as Divisional Youth Secretaries, where they
will oversee youth programs for The Salvation
Army Cascade Division (Oregon and Southern
Idaho), including Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen
– a year round camp in Clackamas County that
hosts more than 1,000 youth yearly.
Captains Emmanuel and Jennifer Masango
have been married for 8 years and have three
young sons, Manu (5yrs), Taona (3yrs), and Fa-
rai (1month). They have enjoyed their time in
Oregon and look forward to several more years.
