ngela Toy said she loved work-
ing in biomedical chemical
products research, but there
wasn’t enough interaction with people
for her.
“I really liked the sciences and re-
search aspect, but I needed more peo-
ple interaction,” Toy said.
So, in September she opened a den-
tal practice, one she took over from
Newberg dentist Stephen Gilroy.
Toy said she’s been looking for a
place to open for the past several years,
which includes her move west from
Minnesota to Oregon 18 months ago.
“I’ve been looking for the right fit
and size of the community and proxim-
ity to the city,” she said. “I wouldn’t
say I’m a country girl, but I’m not a
city girl either.”
After meeting and talking with him,
she said things started happening from
there and she found herself in New-
berg.
“I think it’s going well,” she said.
“I’m excited to become a part of the
community.”
Toy said she had a background in
dentistry so she only had a little bit of
coursework to do before she could start
practicing, and now she wants to start
outreach programs within the commu-
nity.
“I didn’t want to be the anonymous
practice in the
big city,” she
said. “I think
I’d really like
to reach out to the senior center and
schools to practice dental hygiene for
young kids and seniors. They are typi-
cally really lacking. I’m hoping to con-
tact maybe the pediatric medical of-
fices in Newberg, maybe the elemen-
tary schools and getting involved that
way.”

Angela Toy took over the dental practice of Stephen Gilroy, called Arbor Hills Dental, in September and has been busy since
seeing patients and networking in the community.
