Canby Our Town

1918
— With the exception of the short
distance just where the rock crusher
stands at New Era, the new paved road
of the Pacific Highway between Oregon
City and Canby has been completed, the
final load of Warrenite having been
dumped yesterday afternoon, and travel
is now allowed to go through to and from
Oregon City without interference.
1919
— According to plans that are
now under way the people of Clackamas
county are to be invited to give consider-
ation at a special election some time in
November or December, to the question
of bonding the county in the sum of
$1,700,000 for the construction of hard
surfaced trunk roads.
Roads included in the proposal are
Barlow to Monitor, 12 miles, $132,000.
Canby to Marquam, 7 miles, $77,000.
Liberal to Macksburg, 5 miles, $55,000.
1918
— The Canby-Oregon City auto
bus line was inaugurated this week by
M.J. Lee of this place. The bus leaves
Canby at 7:14, 9 a.m., 1, 4 and 6:15 p.m. Returning, the bus will leave Oregon
City at 8 and 10 a.m. and 2, 5, and 7 p.m.
Three times a week, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the bus will
leave Canby at 11 p.m. and returning will leave Oregon City at midnight, which per-
mits Canby people attending theatres in Portland to return home on the same
night.
1920
— That the automobile business is getting an early start for 1920 is quite
apparent from the amount of business that has been done during the past two
weeks by the G.W. White Garage of this city. In that time the garage has received
15 new Fords, 1920 model, self-starters with electric equipment throughout, and up
to today had but two of the machines left.
Contrary to the rumor that has gained some publicity here, the new Fords have
not raised in price, but are selling at $703, f.o.b. Canby, including the war tax.
A TIME FOR TRANSPORTATION
Bus service
between Canby
and Oregon City
was furnished
by M.J. Lee
before the
Pacific Highway
was completed
in 1919. The
open air bus
carried
passengers
over rock and
dirt roads until
the paving was
completed.
