Canby Our Town
1913
— The two most important dates in all but one
year of the history of this prosperous community will
be those mentioned, when P.E. & E sends the first
train over its line to Molalla and the opening of our
1913 Fair.
Some may say we attach undue importance to the
Molalla line, as we are on the wrong end of it to de-
serve any benefit. We are on the receiving end —
considering what that means. All the traffic to and
from Molalla must pass through our doors. Every
one from the Molalla country who passes through
Canby in the future must stay here for an hour or so
both going and coming — isn’t that worth some-
thing? Then also, it has often been proven that if you
make it easier for people to get to any place, more of
them will come.
The opening day of the Fair this year is also of
paramount importance also on account of the open-
ing of the new road. A large percentage of the
people of Clackamas County who are directly inter-
ested in our Fair are for the first time able to come to
it without great inconvenience.
A locomotive train steams into the Canby Depot, loading passengers and produce bound for Portland.
The Molalla-Canby line provided the city its second spur.
