2012 PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW
Ride a Jeep up a steep hill inside the Oregon
Convention Center? You better believe it at
Camp Jeep, the one-of-a-kind national touring
phenomenon that is making its first Northwest
appearance at the Portland International Auto
Show.
It’s an opportunity to experience what
720,000 people in cities including San Diego,
New York, Chicago, Frankfurt (Germany),
Washington D.C., Boston, Miami, and Cleveland
have already witnessed firsthand at other
regional auto shows — the rugged capability of
the Jeep brand.
Camp Jeep is a 30,000-square-foot interactive
adventure zone that gives participants the
opportunity to experience the off-road abilities
of Jeep vehicles without leaving the show floor.
Participants ride with a professional 4X4 driver
over a course that is designed to showcase the
attributes of the company’s vehicles: high ground
clearance, great traction, rock-solid stability and
a suspension that can handle the most extreme
terrains.
The exhibit features a thrilling, “can’t miss”
hill climb where passengers experience these
capabilities while climbing the icon of the ride
— the 18-foot high, 35-degree Jeep Mountain.
Riders are more than 22 feet off the ground when
they reach the peak. The track includes a 12-by-
25-foot section of terrain that features simulated
fallen logs measuring 18 inches in diameter and
a 30-degree wedge to demonstrate the vehicle’s
body articulation. Drivers and passengers will
experience the adrenaline rush of looking nearly
straight up or straight down as they navigate the
obstacle. Each ride is about five minutes long,
enough time to get
a real feel for the
vehicles.
Product specialists
will be chauffeuring
participants in one
of a full lineup of
current Jeep models,
including the Jeep
Wrangler Unlimited
andWranglerRubicon,
Jeep Grand Cherokee,
Jeep Liberty, Jeep
Compass and Jeep
Patriot — one for
every lifestyle.
And Jeep takes care of the kids, too. Adjacent
to Camp Jeep will be the Jeep Kids Course, where
kid-sized Jeeps will be available for the younger
set. While they are waiting for their turn, they
can also try their hand at the Jeep Climbing Wall,
a tribute to Oregonians’ love of the outdoors.
