A special tribute to first responders to the
9/11 terror attacks will be on display at the
2012 Portland International Auto Show. The
First Responder Silverado was commissioned
and financed by Chevy as part of its series of
vehicles commemorating American heroes.
It was unveiled at ground zero in New York
on Sept. 6, 2011, just days before the 10-year
anniversary of the attacks.
Airbrushed on the 2012 Silverado are
images from that fateful day, including
firefighters wading
through
rubble,
K9 search teams,
police officers and
even
President
George Bush. On
the bed cover
is a picture of a
firefighter holding
a child and a list of
the 411 active duty
first responders who lost their lives in the
aftermath of the attacks. A hood ornament
is made from glass that was once part of the
World Trade Center.
“It isimportant thatGMexpressitsheartfelt
gratitude to the brave men and women — the
first responders, law enforcement andmilitary
— who serve and protect our country and
we are proud to count some GM employees
among their ranks. Their dedication and
vigilance helps to preserve the freedom and
opportunity that give America its strength,”
GM says of the First responder Silverado.
The truck is the latest in a series of special
vehicles commemorating American heroes.
TheGMMilitaryDiscount Programpartnered
with world-renowned artist Mickey Harris to
produce them. The first one was the Strength
and Honor Camaro, which saluted the U.S.
armed forces.
