Karen Schaaf,
Broker, GRI
2072 NE Burnside Road Gresham, Oregon 97030
Branch: (503) 666-2020 Cell: (503) 705-6987
Each Office Independently Owned and Operated.
Karen began preparing for her profession as a Real Estate
Broker with RE/MAX Equity Group decades ago by laying the
groundwork, with emphasis on “ground.” Her BS degree in
Microbiology led to a job with Oregon State University in a
horticultural research lab isolating root rot pathogens and experimenting with my-
corrhizal fungi. From there, Karen accepted a research position with Genetic Systems
in Seattle where she created mono-clonal antibodies against human lymphocyte
antigens for the testing of tissue compatibility for successful organ transplants. en
the AIDS epidemic shifted her focus to work on the development of the world’s most
accurate blood test to detect the AIDS virus antibody.
e next phase of Karen’s life lasted about 20 years. In it she returned to the culti-
vation process, raising a crop of three boys, Craig, Alan and Russell. While actively
supporting all of their school and extracurricular activities, she also enjoyed the com-
panionship of garden club, satisfaction as a Cub Scout leader, and preservation of the
Historic Springdale School. As her sons left the nest, it was time to begin phase 3.
While cracking the books to catch up with a world she had left 20 years before, Karen
became disenchanted with the prospect of a boss and set working hours. A new
career in real estate o ered an opportunity to be her own boss with no set hours and
to be financially self-su cient.
Karen never does things half-way and does not pass up an opportunity to make
something grow! As a new Real Estate Broker, Karen got involved in the West Co-
lumbia Gorge Chamber of Commerce and served 2 years as Board President. Her
Chamber experience and years of community service have inspired Karen to use Real
Estate as a vehicle to make the community a better place. Karen has assembled and
trained a team of volunteers to promote the West Columbia Gorge as a place where
people live in the same community in which they work.
As a champion of “Live-Near-Work,” Karen takes every opportunity to explain that,
as employees from local businesses depart the community at the end of the work
day, it leaves a hole in the social fabric. ey take their resources, passions, and pay-
checks to another community. Employees who live near work are civically engaged,
happier and more productive in the work place. Employers become more financially
supportive of the schools and communities in which their employees live.
Imagine a community where parents live near their work and their children’s schools,
with more time to be active in neighborhood and school projects - less time in traf-
fic, fewer tra c jams, and lower blood pressure! Home ownership is the cornerstone
of a vibrant, healthy community. Life is truly better when you “Live-Near-Work.”
Call Karen to find out how you or your company can
participate in the “Live-Near-Work” incentive program.
Growing Karen!

Tiffany Baker is the Owner/Operator of The Local Buzz, a
family friendly, old school barber shop. She has been barbering
for 10 years and owned her own shop for a little over three
years now.Tiffany and her husband Grant both grew up in the
area. She wanted a business in their hometown where they are
raising their children, Zander 8 and Gracie 6.The kiddos also
help out with the shop, after hours now that school is back
in session.
The Local Buzz offers precise haircuts, hot lather, straight razor neck shaves, hot
towels followed by bay rum and a neck massage. Along with the old school barbershop
services, they also offer a re truck and monster truck kids barber chairs, cartoons,
popcorn, wii, train table, juice or root beer. For adults they have sports on the at
screens and complimentary local beer on tap with a haircut. They are a walk-in only
shop and OPEN 7 days a week!
Tiffany enjoys listening to her clients talk about their lives, hobbies and families. It’s
great to get to know them and feel like a part of their family as they bring in their chil-
dren, friends, and other family members. Tiffany currently has two amazing employees
that work with her and help run the shop.
The Local Buzz has moved from our downtown
Sandy location and is now open at a new location off
Hwy 26, located in the same parking lot as Bi-Mart.
They greatly appreciate seeing returning clients and
eager to meet new faces as well.
