CAR SHOWHAS IT ALL

Whether you like the tailfins of a ’57 Chevy or the sleek
profile of a Porsche or the power in a Dodge Demon,
there is surely something for everyone at the Old Time
Fair car show cruise-in.
Portland car club Team Xcessive Speedz will host the an-
nual car and motorcycle show for its third time this year. The
club’s president, Kevin Krieger, hopes this year’s show will be
even bigger and better.
Having grown up around cars, Krieger started Team Xces-
sive Speedz 10 years ago as a way to connect and meet people
with similar interests. The club now has about 20 regular
members who travel to car shows up and down the West
Coast. Members’ vehicles range from muscle cars to newer
imports.
Krieger, who is a youth pastor at Oak Hills Presbyterian
Church in Milwaukie, has the best of both worlds – he shares
a 1971 Plymouth Duster with his dad and his newest “baby” is
an Acura RXX.
Last year about 190 vehicles participated in the cruise-in,
and Krieger hopes for more than 200 this year.
“Ninety-nine percent of the results of the show will be
based on the weather,” he said.
The vehicles enter in the cruise-in and compete in a variety
of categories. The youth group from Krieger’s church will al-
so sell raffle tickets for prizes.
Last year, Stan and Sue Steward took home top honors
with Stan Steward winning Best in Show, with his 1933 3 win-
dow Ford and Sue Steward winning Best Paint with her 1932
Roadster. Rick Irish won the Best Engine award with his su-
percharged 750 horsepower 2003 Ford Mustang convertible.
Other highlights for Krieger from last year were a Nissan
Skyline valued at $180,000 and a ’34 Roadster.
“That’s the cool thing about this show … we have such a
variety of cars,” Krieger said. “This is one of the very, very
few car shows in Oregon that has a cruise-in, tons of food and
a carnival. … There’s tons of stuff to do.”
He also stressed that the car show and cruise-in draws in
both the young and the young at heart and is family friendly.
“The kids will go for what’s shiny, what’s fast and furious,”
he said. “Last year, the kids were really drawn to the older
cars too.”
Since this is West Linn’s 100th anniversary and Team Xces-
sive Speedz’s 10th anniversary, Krieger hopes the cruise-in
and car show are something special.
“We’re just going to try to host the best show we’ve ever
had,” he said.
The cruise-in and car show will run from 11 a.m. to 3:30
p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at Willamette Park, 1100 12th St.
From old
American
classics to new
imports, the
West Linn Old
Time Fair car
show draws a
wide variety of
vehicles.
