Now in its’ 15 th year,
Rockin’ Round the Block,
organized by Northwest
Motorsports Association in
cooperation with downtown
merchants and presenting
sponsor, Weston Buick KIA
GMC draws close to 400 stock,
modified and custom cars,
trucks and motorcycles into
historic downtown Gresham.
Held the second
Saturday in August (August 10,
2013), the show, which is
a fundraiser for Mt. Hood
Community College, includes
some of the hottest rods and
coolest customs
this part of the
country has
to offer. To
date the event
has raised
$126,000 for
the school’s
Automotive
Technology
Program
scholarships.
The show kicks off
Friday night (August 9, 7pm)
with the Historic Bed Races.
Teams representing local
businesses, schools, churches
and community groups
race down a 350' stretch of
Main Street cheered on by
enthusiastic crowds lining
the sidewalks.
Early Saturday
morning cars begin
rumbling into town and by
noon things begin to look
like a scene from the film
classic, “American Graffiti”.
Rock ‘n Roll music fills
the air as more than 10,000
spectators flood into local shops
and restaurants.
The Chamber of
Commerce
estimates that the
car show brings
more people
into downtown
Gresham than
almost any other
annual event. This
year the Gresham
Farmer’s Market
will once again join the show
by selling produce, artwork
and other goods. The market
will be located on Roberts
Street. Besides eating and
shopping opportunities, there
are door prizes, trophies, free
children’s games, face painter,
clown, vendor booths, an old
fashioned street cruise and
cars, cars, cars!!! All makes and
models are welcome, whether
completed or a “work in
progress”.
This year judging of the
show will be headed up by Ron
Peters, author of “Prepare to
be Judged.”
