When this family
moved from a
rambling Tudor to an
unusual mid-century
modern home
with breathtaking
views and serious
renovation challenges, they relied on
Arciform to manage the transition.
Significant upgrades to the home’s
hydronic heating system, a complete
daylight basement and exterior
renovation and a transformed main living
space helped unlock the home’s potential
while honoring its period aesthetic.
The removal of key interior walls and
the creation of open flow between the
master suite and main living spaces
opened up panoramic views of Mount
Hood provided by a sweeping curve of
floor to ceiling windows along the home’s
east side. The living room fireplace was
restored and gorgeous oak floors with
unique inlaid tile detail were added
to draw attention to the concentric
curves that were a defining feature of
the home’s original architecture. The
daylight basement, main floor kitchen
and bathroom renovations featured a
mix of period details and smart updates.
A curving wall and glass blocks in the
master bathroom lets natural light
into the space while creating a unique
shower alcove. The outdated kitchen was
completely transformed, featuring walnut
cabinets with white accents and a rolling
island.
Natural materials were used to “bring
the outside in,” including white pebble
flooring in the showers and painstakingly
restored mahogany doors and woodwork
throughout the home. Several furniture
pieces were restored or built specifically
for the project, including a custom-
built curving cantilevered mahogany
countertop that serves as an iconic
centerpiece for the main
living area.
