isten – to the birds in our for-
ests, to the joyful sounds from
our schools, to the chatter of
hundreds at our
Farmers’ Markets,
to the words at our theatrical produc-
tions, to the neighbors in our cities
and villages, to the sound of light rail
as it enters
Clackamas Town Center.
The sounds of North Clackamas are
the heartbeat of a community. A com-
munity for five incorporated cities
and urban and rural areas, a commu-
nity of the old and the new, of moun-
tain, farmland, lavender fields, rivers
and quiet streams. We are an area of
outdoor recreation, of indoor arts and
performances, of shopping and eater-
ies and nightlife. This is where you
will find the familiar soda fountain
and the newest technology. You’ll dis-
cover a place close to The Mountain,
Mt. Hood,
and close to The City,
Port-
land,
but a world away – that can be
any world you look for. We have it in
North Clackamas.
Perhaps the privilege of witnessing
the sun rise behind Mt. Hood’s snow-
draped peaks sets the stage for high
expectations of our environment and
ourselves. No wonder the cities of
Da-
mascus, Happy Valley, Gladstone,
Johnson City, and Milwaukie
wel-
come the collective nickname – Sun-
rise Communities, a part of Oregon’s
Mt. Hood Territory.
FromNorth Clackamas on any given
day or hour you have access to the
Or-
egon Coast,
Mt. Hood’s snow-covered
playground, Portland’s big city vibe,
leisure and sports activities on the
mighty
Columbia River,
the scenic
gorge highway leading past breath-
taking
Multnomah Falls,
high desert
regions, the infamous
Mt. St. Helens,
plus an abundance of rivers, lakes,
community parks, wildlife, as well as
National Parks
and campgrounds.
Outdoor activities are virtually unlim-
ited all year round.
The diversity of the landscape is re-
flected in the people and the variety
of opportunities in our communities.
Community
The diversity of the landscape is reflected in the people
and the variety of opportunities in our communities.
Gladstone Centennial is being
celebrated throughout 2011,
with special events in this city
framed by rivers. This place
where the Clackamas & Wil-
lamette Rivers meet, make this
community ideal for events and
outside recreation.
Jerry Herrmann, Gladstone
Historical Society’s president, is
a dynamic presence lining up
events throughout the year. “I
have to give North Clackamas
Chamber of Commerce the
credit,” Jerry insists. “I com-
pleted their Leadership Train-
ing Course and it made all the
difference.
This is a unique commu-
nity,” he continues. “It sets the
standard for encouraging citizen
involvement. Our city leaders
empower community members
to get things done without un-
necessary interference.
