activity,” she said.
Vincent Jennings agreed. His 8 month
old Lab Valentine always “needs to play,”
Jennings said.
Ranger, 1, and Oli, 3, love running
and playing at the dog park.
“We want to teach Ranger sociliza-
tion,” said Rachel Smith-Gillespie of
West Linn. “Oli just loves to play around
and get the energy out. I like this dog
park because it’s so clean.”
Working dogs
Many who work in Lake Oswego find
they’re more productive with their furry
friend at the office.
“Charles is a ‘Chiweenie’ — half Chi-
huahua and half wiener dog,” said Laura
Angel from Sixpence Antiques at 519
Third Street (http://sixpenceantiques.
blogspot.com). “He’s got a Chihuahua
head on a wiener dog body.”
Charles enjoys his time at the unique
gift shop each day.
“He even has people who come by
just to visit him.”
David Swanson, president of Swanson
Financial Services, Inc. (www.Swanson-
Financial.com), at 14523 Westlake Drive
brings his dog, Butch, to work each day.
“He is 4-and-a-half years old,” Swan-
son said of the purebred American Ken-
nel Club German Shepherd from an
Eastern European line who is also a ser-
vice animal.
“Butch is amazing and is so calm
around people and other animals. He
selected us as his owners when he was
about four weeks old. After the seventh
week and we could bring him home he
has never left my side,” Swanson said.
“He comes to work with me almost ev-
eryday, travels in the car on any trip and
he loves to fly with us and play in the
Hawaiian waves. My wife and I often
refer to him as our ‘furry son.’”
The Hendricks family — Sandy and
John and their son, Travis — at Ovation
Design-Build at 5833 Jean Road (www.
OvationDesignBuild.com) bring their
three West Highland White Terriers to
their design studio each day.
Gismo, Jasmine and Cosmo love
prancing around the remodeling show-
room and greeting guests.
“They are fun work buddies and they
are always nice,” said Travis Hendricks,
a project manager. “They just play and
lounge around. We have plenty of space.”
And outside the showroom the three
small dogs enjoy boating on Oswego
Lake and surfing on kickboards.
Joe Buck, owner of the side-by-side
restaurants Babica Hen and Gubanc’s
Pub and Restaurant said two Labradoo-
dles are at work every day with him —
Lola, 3, and Remy, 2.
Babica Hen allows dogs on its patio
but why else do they like coming to
work?
“I think the constant smell of bacon
is certainly a big reason,” Buck said.
“These dogs are no slackers, though. Re-
cently they served as test-tasters for Bab-
ica Hen’s gluten free banana- peanut but-
ter dog bones. We actually had to modify
the recipe after Remy spit his out. Now
it’s their favorite snack.”
