elebrate the start of the
Lake Oswego Festival of
the Arts with Kids Day,
an afternoon of fun. Kids Day fea-
tures a full schedule of livemusic,
performances, crafts, games and
delicious food on Friday, June 21,
from noon to 4:00 p.m., in George
Rogers Park.
It may be the 50th anniversary
of the Lake Oswego Festival of
the Arts but it is the first year
the Lake Oswego Mothers Club
(LOMC) has presented this part
of the Festival.
"It is an honor to be a part of
our community's tradition of
recognizing and celebrating the
importance of the arts," said
Ivonne Flores, LOMC president.
"Kids Day truly reflects the focus
of the Festival because in Lake
Oswego, art and community are
intertwined and our children are
an important, foundational part
of our community."
This year's Kids Day guaran-
tees another wildly fun day of de-
lectable, local food and treats, live
music, captivating performances,
crafts, games and prizes.
Be sure to catch "kindie rock"
sensations Johnny and Jason on
stage. Johnny and Jason make
engaging music that appeals to
young children and their parents.
Don't be surprised if you find
yourself singing along!

gram at Stafford Hills Club, a ma-
jor supporter of Kids Day, which
promotes wellness in the next
generation.
"We have a 'back to basics'
philosophy that celebrates child-
hood, and as children get older,
we provide themwith the tools to
fully use the resources they have
and to develop a focus on overall
wellness," said Alaina Jarrell, the
director of family programming
at Stafford Hills Club.
Get caught up in the classical
beauty of ballet and watch the

year. And BJ the Clown promises

tique.
Perhaps the highlight of Kids
Day will be the Missoula Chil-
dren’s Theatre production of
The
Tortoise Versus the Hare: The
Greatest Race
. Local Lake Os-
wego youth will act and sing in
a delightful play complete with
scenery, costumes, lively music
and a heartwarming story.
Somewhere in desert country,
the inhabitants of West Sandy
Bottoms are preparing for the
highlight of their year – the an-
nual race between the reptiles
and the mammals. A company
of strolling actors attempts to
tell the tale in classical fashion.
The Hare’s weaselly managers
brag about their racing star as
the various reptiles assemble to
choose their candidate. Fan clubs
are preparing their cheers as the
big day draws near. Philoh Ferret
reminds the racing fans that his
service station is for “mammals
only.”
As you see the race through
the eyes of a TV news team cov-
ering the event, you soon dis-
cover there is more than a sport-
ing rivalry between the brown
animals and the green animals.
Loyalties to their specific colors
create a real animosity among
these creatures.
As the race proceeds, a bunny
is lost in the wilds of Tornado
Gulch and, almost miraculously,
color is forgotten as the mam-
mals and reptiles join in the
Kids Day contains enough games and activities to please children of all ages.
Happy faces abound throughout all of
the Kids Day activities.
Perhaps the highlight of Kids Day
will be the Missoula Children’s Theatre
production of
The Tortoise Versus the Hare:
The Greatest Race.
